Evaluation Question 3

Magazine distribution is the link between the magazine producers and retail outlets. The outlets are the stores where the magazines are sold and are mostly places which have a large magazine section such as WHSmith. The producers create all the major aspects of the magazine including the structure and the content. The producers then send the finished magazine to distribute retail or who will market the magazine and will also aim to advertise the magazine to help target audiences to buy the magazine.

However as most companies have a distributor NME does not, the company its self has been placing its magazines on shops shelves such as Tesco, co-op and as well as news agents and well as other places such as WHSmith since 2009, but recently have partnered up with John Menzies to help publish their magazine online.

As NME do not have a distributor I researched into another magazine based around that genre, the first was Mojo; With Mojo I found a media institution which deals with publishing the magazine and distributing it. A media institution is an established, profit based organisation which deals with the creation and distribution of advertising, entertainment and information services.
The Institution Mojo uses is Bauer Media (on the right). Bauer is a division of the Bauer Media group, Europe's largest privately owned publishing group. The group is a worldwide media empire offering over 230 magazines in 15 countries, as well as online, Tv and radio.

Bauer Media reaches over nineteen million UK adults across multiple media channels. The business is built on influential media brands with millions of personal relationships and engaged readers or listeners, they aim to connect audiences with excellent content through multi-touch point brand platforms.

I also went on to find that Bauer media also publish high end magazines similar to my Genre such as Kerrang and Q.

In my opinion I think Bauer Media will be the best media institution to use as most magazines related to my genre are published by them also after looking at facts and statistics these are the more successful companies. With Mojo magazine and Q being one of the best selling magazines within the UK.

Evaluation Question 2

I believe my media product represents similar social groups, for instance NME. I will demonstrate this by comparing the image on the cover page of the NME magazine (left) compared to the image I used for my Final cover page (below) Firstly the posture of both the men is straight and facing directly at the audience, this is so the image directly addresses the audience. Next the gestures; Both of the males faces are emotionless perhaps the slight squint from the male on the left, however this provokes seriousness and as if they are trying to connect with the audience.
The angles of the shots are both similar they are both an eye-line shot, this makes the audience feel as if they are speaking and socializing with the two models. However the lighting of each image is different. For the image on the left they have used artificial light directly at the models face allowing him to stand out, whereas for
my image I used the natural lighting in the area to keep the picture dark and mysterious to portray my model.
The clothing of both the models are quite similar, they have used basic everyday clothing for the model for NME to try and make it look like he is laid back and not bothered about high end fashion. I have also placed my model in basic clothing however also used a very iconic piece of clothing within the indie genre; the 'parka' a piece of clothing known to be worn by mods and now widely referred to the indie genre.
